Transition Your Closet for the Season with Ease and Style!

Tips for a successful summer wardrobe transition

The days are getting longer, the sun is shining brighter, and it's time to give your closet a seasonal refresh! It suddenly got VERY hot here in New England and I realized it was time to break out my sun dresses and bike shorts and pack away those bulky winter coats taking up valuable closet space.

Transitioning your wardrobe can feel like a daunting task, but with these simple, practical, and, dare I say, fun tips, you'll breeze through it and step into the new season with confidence and style. Ready to get started? Let’s dive in!

Pro Tip:

Smart Hanger Trick: Hang your summer clothes with the hangers facing backward. When you wear an item, turn the hanger the right way. By the end of the season, you'll see exactly what you didn’t wear and can decide if it’s worth packing away.

The Dos & Don’ts

1. Say Goodbye to Winter Wear (For Now):

First things first, pull out those heavy sweaters, winter jackets, and any other items you won't need as the temperatures rise.

Trust me, you won't miss them!

2. Clean Before You Store:

Before packing away your winter clothes, make sure they're clean and free of stains. Dirty clothes attract pests, and we definitely don't want that! With wool and cashmere items add lavender packets to your bins to deter moths, and throw in a few dryer sheets with other clothing to keep them smelling fresh.

3. Assess the Keepers and the Goners:

Before you pack it all away for another 6 months, ask yourself: “Are these winter clothes still worth keeping?”

Check for any irreparable damage or stains. Did you even wear it this past season? If not, it might be time to let it go.

4. Unpack with Purpose:

As you unpack your current season wardrobe, take stock of what you have and what you might need. Missing anything crucial? Time to replace those worn-out sandals or that favourite tee that's seen better days? Keep a running list on your phone so you know exactly what to shop for next time you're out. I know I need to add a new white tank and tee to the line up each summer since I’m bound to stain them.

Transitioning your closet doesn't have to be a chore. I usually put on my favourite playlist, pour a refreshing drink, and make it an enjoyable event. You’re not just organizing; you’re curating a wardrobe that makes you feel like the bada$$ you are all season long!

Stay fabulous!
